Backcountry Skiing with Koren on Red Mountain Pass.
|
One of the best things about moving to a new locale is having a whole new set of places to explore. On this day that meant a backcountry ski on Red Mountain Pass between Ouray and Silverton. We had been turned on to this area during a 3-day avalanche course and I took an immediate liking to the moderate slope and beautiful vistas.
Koren made beautiful turns and I made turns for a couple hours before we decided to call it a day. A quick ski back to the car and a 15 minute drive and the search was on for a good movie to go with our hot chochlate. It's not all bad living at 9,300 feet in the San Juans. :)
A shot of me leaving the trees. From here a wide open slope gains the top of a ridgeline which gives access to McMillian Peak and Red Mountain 3. |

Ari discovering that the tips of Koren's skis are not always visible under the snow... |

Ari tends to follow our tracks so he doesn't break through the top layer of snow. |
This is a panoramic picture of Koren on top of the good skiing at Red Mountain Pass. |
A slightly out of control Ari trying to catch up with Koren who just took off down the hill... |

Ari never really catches up on the way down though... |
